Grounding Research
Research & Studies
What Does the Research Say About Grounding?
Grounding (also known as earthing) is an area of scientific research that has attracted increasing interest over the past two decades.
Researchers have investigated whether direct contact with the Earth's surface—or conductive grounding systems designed to recreate that connection indoors—may influence various physiological processes including sleep quality, stress, circulation, inflammation and recovery.
While the body of evidence continues to grow, many studies are relatively small and further high-quality research is still needed. Current findings should therefore be viewed as promising rather than conclusive.

Blood Flow & Circulation
A number of studies have investigated whether grounding may influence blood viscosity and circulation.
Researchers have examined:
- Blood flow
- Red blood cell behaviour
- Blood viscosity
- Microcirculation
These studies are preliminary but have generated interest for future investigation.
Stress & Wellbeing
Grounding has also been investigated in relation to:
- Stress
- Mood
- Nervous system regulation
- Relaxation
- Heart rate variability
Some studies have reported measurable physiological changes, although larger studies are required before firm conclusions can be drawn.

Understanding the Evidence
Grounding research is an active area of investigation.
While a number of peer-reviewed studies have reported encouraging findings, many involve relatively small participant numbers and additional independent, large-scale clinical trials are needed.
Grounding should not be considered a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you have concerns about your health, always consult a qualified healthcare professional.
